SHWAS SUPERSPECIALITY RESPIRATORY CENTER

To breathe free is the most fundamental privilege that defines a healthy and happy life. Taking a deep satisfying breath fills you with energy and enthusiasm.

Interventional Pulmonology

Our interventional pulmonologists use a minimally invasive procedure called bronchoscopy to see inside the lungs without the need for open surgery. We use bronchoscopy to both diagnose and treat lung diseases, injuries, and other airway conditions such as lung cancer.

Bronchoscope

A bronchoscope is a hollow, flexible tube with a light and a camera that can take photos or video to help with diagnosis. Our doctors can use the bronchoscope to take lung tissue samples to examine under a microscope for signs of disease, infection, or other problems.

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

In additional to performing a bronchoscopy, our physicians may use endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) to send sound waves through the walls of your airways and into the surrounding areas, including the lungs and mediastinum (the area of the chest that lies between the lungs). This procedure provides a better view or understanding of a particular site that is abnormal in presentation.

Reasons for performing an endobronchial ultrasound:

  • To look for the presence of tumors or enlarged lymph nodes.
  • To diagnose tumors within the lung
  • To diagnose lymph nodes in the mediastinum

Pulmonary function test

Pulmonary function test is a complete evaluation of the respiratory system including patient history, physical examinations, and tests of pulmonary function. The primary purpose of pulmonary function testing is to identify the severity of pulmonary impairment.

Pulmonary function testing at Pulmonary Practice Associates is administered by one of our registered/certified respiratory therapists. This test allows our physicians to gain a better understanding of a patient’s lung capacity and restrictions, if any. This test can also assist in determining the effectiveness of respiratory medications by performing pre-medicated and post-medicated pulmonary function testing.
